Oral Sedation At The Dentist Makes Things Much Easier

A brave patient at Stony Brook Family DentistyIf you suffer from dentist fright then you will be glad to know that the dentists at Stony Brook Family and Laser Dentistry can now put you more at ease by giving you a little sedation before you hit the dental chair.

If you drive, you will want someone to accompany you to the dentist because it will probably not be good if you attempt to drive home. It has been shown in study after study that most of the difficulty people have when going to the dentist is fear of the unknown. A little sedation works wonders as it settles the nerves, and you don’t have the anxiety that you normally would have.

Most dental offices offer different levels of sedation from a very mild sedation, to fully asleep. The patient has the choice of what level they wish to achieve. If there is a lot of work that needs to be done, with a heavier sedation, more work can be done, that would normally take 5 or 6 dental visits.

When different levels of sedation are required, a board certified anesthesiologist will administer the sedation. In a case such as that, if the patient chooses a heavier dose, he or she may have no memory of the appointment, and they will have a recovery period at the dental office, and they will need an escort to get them home.

Now dental work does not have to be associated with pain and discomfort as the actual dental work does not have to be a part of the patient’s experience. It makes going to the dentist much more palatable for most people.
