How Mini Implants Can Help Denture Wearers

smiling couple with dental implantsMini implants have revolutionized the world of dentistry and they are making waves even outside of the dentistry community.

At our dental office we have had many patients ask about these amazing new implants and whether they are worth investing in.

Our answer is that if you can safely have the implants fitted, they will change your life!

What Are Mini Dental Implants?

Mini dental implants are small implants that are fitted to your jaw in the areas where you have missing teeth. Depending on the number of teeth you are missing you may end up with as many as four mini titanium posts screwed into your jaw bone. Small retaining fixtures are added to the top of the implants. These serve as roots for your dentures.

The reason that these implants are so popular is that they are really easy for denture wearers to use. Instead of having to use expensive and time-consuming adhesives to hold their dentures in place, they simply push the denture onto the implant and it acts like a snap-on fixture. Once the denture is inserted in this way, it is almost completely indistinguishable from the wearer’s real teeth.

From a dentist’s point of view, mini implants are valuable too. The implants anchor into the jaw bone and fuse with the wearer’s own bone. This helps to provide a stabilizing effect for the rest of the jaw, keeping the jawbone healthy and preventing more bone loss. Traditional dentures do not offer this effect, so it is common for denture wearers to experience more tooth loss over time.

Mini implants are a good choice for anyone who is missing teeth, and who has a big enough jawbone for them to have the implant fitted.
