Accidents Happen

Accidents HappenAt Stony Brook Family and Laser Dentistry, we have seen just about any type of dental emergency that can happen to our Long Island patients. Many of these issues are the result of accidents, but it can be important for clients to remember that these incidents may be small traumas, as well as expressly critical experiences. Regardless of the cause, these emergencies can still impact well being, and should be addressed as quickly as possible.

Little Things

Emergencies involving dentures and prosthetic teeth are actually quite common. This can come from breakage through normal wear and tear, or from more immediate causes. One of our patients had actually stepped on their dentures after dropping them, and needed to come in for repair in order to just go through the normal routines of life. This type of accident happens a lot, and it is important to have resources and support for the emergency.

Other common accidents that we have seen involve the partial loss of a natural or fabricated tooth. This includes old fillings communing loose and exposing the nerve endings in the tooth. These experiences usually include a fair amount of pain, so correcting the problem can become quite pressing. One of our patients had cracked a natural tooth while biting into a hard piece of bread. Although the client was not in pain with this damage, the sharp edge of the broken tooth was a concern for any further damage. Immediately capping the tooth helped to alleviate the problem.

Big Things

Of course, larger traumatic events can also cause emergency dental issues for our Long Island patients. We have attended to any number of skateboarding, cycling, and playground accidents where full or partial damage to the tooth has occurred. Since no one knows when such an incident is going to occur, it can be imperative to have the appropriate medical attention to ensure that no further concerns can impact health and wellbeing. Regardless of the time of day, we urge patients to avail themselves of the emergency dental services that Stony Brook Family and Laser Dentistry can provide. Even if you are not prepared, we can be there to help.
