How Technology is Revolutionizing Dentistry

How Technology is Revolutionizing DentistryDigital dentistry uses advanced and updated dental technologies and devices that incorporate digital or computer-controlled components that carry out specific dental procedures instead of using traditional tools like mechanical or electrical tools.

Advantages of Digital Dentistry

Digital dentistry offers several advantages for each area of dentistry when compared to traditional or conventional means of treatment.

  • Improved Efficiency: it can save the patient both time and money on treatments and procedures
  • Improved Accuracy: a higher level of accuracy and care when compared to other more conventional means of treatment
  • Higher Predictability: digital dentistry also allows a higher level of predictability when it comes to catching problems sooner rather than later

Types of Digital Services

There are several types of digital services currently available for our patients. Digital X-rays, for example, are one of the best services because it helps to eliminate those uncomfortable X-rays people usually have to suffer through.

Digital X-rays also allow the dentist to take a much closer and deeper look at your teeth and the imaging tools allow the dentist to zoom in and really find the problem.

Digital X-rays have 80% less radiation when compared to traditional x-rays.

At Stony Brook Family and Laser Dentistry, we also use intraoral cameras. Like with the digital X-rays, this camera allows us to get a much closer look at your teeth and mouth to diagnose any problems you may have.

You can also see the images yourself as they are getting taken which many patients find interesting.

Biolase is another technology we utilize at our office. Lasers are capable of accomplishing many things without the need for needles, stitches, or unnecessary discomfort and pain for the patient.

Waterlase, for example, can perform several different dental procedures and has reportedly cut down on the amount of anxiety and stress the patient feels while also making the procedure more comfortable with less bleeding and swelling.

The Future of Digital Dentistry

With so many new technologies becoming available, there is no limit on what we will see in the future when it comes to digital dentistry. With digital dentistry advancements, we are able to offer our patients much more in the way of care, and when properly implemented, it can help us catch more serious problems right away, so we can begin treatment immediately.
