Long Island has always been at the center of change. Thanks to its location in the New York City area and its high population of more than 7.6 million, those who live and work in any of its four counties regularly take advantage of the latest technological developments. And among the many breakthroughs in healthcare, we here at Stony Brook Family Dentistry believe that mini dental implants are one that have made a big impact in the lives of our patients.
If you’re not sure just what mini dental implants are, you’re not alone. They’ve greatly impacted the way that cosmetic dental implants are used and have numerous advantages over the traditional process of placing implants.
So just how do mini dental implants work? They’re similar to full implants, but utilize a much smaller implant that resembles a screw. This is placed in the jawbone, and then a denture is attached to the anchor.
However, mini implants differ from traditional full implants in a few ways. Thanks to their smaller size, here are some of the benefits they provide:
• No recovery time – Unlike traditional implants, you’ll be able to go back to your normal life very quickly after the procedure.
• Noninvasive – The procedure used to place full implants is very invasive and requires bone grafting and more. Setting mini implants is a noninvasive procedure that is over quickly.
• No wait to place dentures – With traditional implants, there is a waiting period between the initial anchor implant and the placement of the dentures. But with mini dental implants, you can have the implant placed and have the denture applied to it in the same day. This eliminates multiple trips.
• Cheaper – Thanks to the smaller amount of work involved, using mini dental implants is often much cheaper than traditional options.
To place mini dental implants, it takes about one hour. The entire process includes use of a mild anesthetic, drilling a small hole to set the implant into, and then the placement of the mini dental implant. After this, the denture can be attached. There is usually no major discomfort following the procedure, and light eating can be resumed just after the completion of the procedure.
At Stony Brook Family Dentistry, we believe that mini dental implants are the solution for many of our patients. To learn more or to set up a visit to discuss your options with a professional, please contact us today.
